A couple weekends ago, I took the kids to Starbuck’s. Josey was gone at a fishing tournament, so it was just us for the day and we had a couple of errands to run, but first I thought it would be fun to treat ourselves. And anytime my kids get to go to Starbuck’s, they are just thrilled. (That’s some marketing if not only adults can’t stay away from that place, but kids love it, too.) After spending some time inside eating and drinking, we headed out the door, and on the way to the car I heard Rory say, “Ahhh, life.is.good. Thank you, God!” The woman walking in front of us, stopped and turned with a big smile on her face, and then just kept on walking. I couldn’t help but laugh myself. It seemed funny hearing that come from a six year old. The way she said it, seemed more like something an adult would say.
You know, that one little comment from her set the tone for the entire day, though. And it really made me start to think about what kind of person she is going to be as she continues to grow. Right now, she is the kind of girl who can find pure delight in something as simple as a vanilla bean frappuccino. And then thank God for it. I hope she is always grateful for even the smallest things in her life. She can dance her little heart out to Justin Bieber on the radio, all while seat belted in, and without a care in the world that the person in the car next to us is staring. I hope she always has that confidence. She can repeat the word ‘watermelon’ a hundred times to her little brother in hopes that, eventually, he’ll pronounce it correctly. I hope she always has that true love and concern for her brother and for others. And also that determination.
One thing I’m sure she’ll always have is this smile. (Minus a couple of teeth very soon! I had to make sure to get these photos before that event happens!)
