I love, love, love my returning clients. LOVE! I can’t tell you what a smile it puts on my face when I get the opportunity to photograph a newborn baby and then to be asked to photograph him with his new baby brother; it really is an honor. Every time I get to photograph a child again and again, I feel happy and sad all at the same time; seeing them grow so quickly…it’s like they are MY kids! So you can imagine how happy I was to see this once tiny eleven day old Levi now, as a big brother. He was so gentle, sweet, and smiley. And little Max, at six days old, was already fitting in well with his family. So happy and content!

I can’t believe it has been over a year since this sweet little princess was born! Look at her as just a little five day old! She has always been one of the happiest, most smiley babies I’ve known. For this session, I had the party theme in mind, I guess, and I just love how these one year photos of her turned out.

I am so thrilled that I have to opportunity to watch this little man grow throughout his first year, and I’m already looking forward to the six month session! I think the term Gerber baby would be appropriate here! It took everything I had not to kiss his little cheeks.

I always have so much fun every year taking Valentine-themed photos of my kids. This year, I was short on space to do much, and almost didn’t do it at all, but I’m glad I made the effort just because I love being able to compare them year after year and to see how much they’ve changed from one Valentine’s Day to the next. Plus, we have fun coming up with ideas for Valentine cards for their friends. Look at Cohen last year. And Rory and her Valentine’s. My sweet girl two years ago and I loved Cohen’s Valentines that year. And this one is just going to make me cry. Oh, good grief…this is enough walking down memory lane for one day for this mama.

I had my own ideas about how Rory’s photos would look, and she had hers. In the end, she won. The girl does have pretty good style, though.

Her Valentine cards are actually bookmarks! Now that she’s a speed reading first grader, I knew she would appreciate them.

Cohen was just happy that he was going to get a treat after. Whatever works!

We found these mini bottles of bubble bath in the Target dollar aisle. Cohen insisted on them, but was sad that they don’t actually make pink bubbles in the tub.

Since the day I became a mom, always having a camera by my side has been important to me. I’ve tried to capture not just the big events, but the small moments, too. By capturing those small moments with my camera, I look back and I see the beauty that our everyday life holds. The photographs of moments that seemed mundane and simple at the time are the ones I treasure the most.

This workshop is for beginner DSLR users who do not yet have a good understanding of how to use their camera in the manual setting, and it is for those who want to learn how to tell a story of their child’s everyday life through their photographs.

This workshop will be held in the home of a local Bismarck mom, and is open to all. I love this idea of holding the Everyday Life Workshop in homes because what better place to learn how to capture the everyday moments of your child’s life than the place where those moments are most often created?! (Read the info below if you have 8-10 friends interested in the Everyday Life Workshop and would like to host one of your own!)

How to tell a story with your photographs

Tips for getting more natural and candid shots of your children

How to work with the natural light you have available

Identifiying what is correct exposure

The basics of shooting in manual mode: ISO, shutter speed, and aperture

A DSLR camera

Your camera’s user manual

Any lens. You can bring the kit lens that came with your camera, or I highly encourage you to invest in a 50mm lens. The 50mm f/1.8 lens is very affordable (just over $100) and it will allow you to do so much more with it’s lower aperture capabilities. (And you’ll find out what aperture means at the workshop!!!) workshop cost

$225 (plus tax), due in-full at the time of registration. The workshop will be limited to ten participants. Your registration fee is not refundable, but if you are unable to attend, your seat may be sold to someone else.

what this workshop is not

This workshop is not for professional photographers or those with to the desire to have a photography business in the future. Photoshop and editing will not be covered in this class, and there will be no business discussions.

Merry Christmas to you all! I hope you spent your holiday sharing it with those you love! I know I did. This year, 2012, has been a hard one for my family for a several varying reasons, yet I am ending it feeling more fulfilled, more grateful, and more at peace than I have ever been. While it has been filled with struggles, God has filled my life with people who have inspired me and encouraged me, and for that I am so thankful.

I normally start the new year with a contest and giveaway, but this year I am doing some things different. We all know about the tragic events that happened on December 14 in Newton, CT. Shortly after, a phenomenon of giving away portrait sessions to deserving families began on Facebook, inspired by The Olivi a Act. I am joining in the act of giving away a session to a deserving family, so please go to my Facebook page to read the details of that and email me at everydayartphoto@gmail.com to nominate someone you feel deserves to be blessed with a family session in the coming year.

Of course, hearing of the children’s lives who were lost that day broke my heart, and as if I didn’t need another reason to be even more thankful for these two, I was. I had been waiting to share these images until after our Christmas card was sent, so they were taken at the end of September. I just adore these photos of my children!

On my top five list of things I love most about Christmas, it is giving and receiving cards! I love to see how our family and friend’s have changed over the past year. Here are some (lackluster) images of our card from this year.

I can’t believe I haven’t shared these with you! I had planned to take the month of December off. HA! I didn’t shoot any sessions, but I have still been busy wrapping up client orders, designing Christmas cards, answering inquiries, updating my print collections for 2013, etc. All on top of trying to squeeze in lots of Christmas activities with my children, get together’s with family and friends, and more than a few meetings making decisions about our future home. So, my blog and Facebook page have taken a back burner for awhile. Last night, I had a notification on my Facebook page that I hadn’t posted there in seven days. I guess it is bad when even Facebook is wondering where on earth you went! But, it is time to catch up here and share with you some of my favorite sessions from the year. I still haven’t shared the images of my own kids that I took for our Christmas card, so I’ll do that later this week, too.

This little guy was the sweetest. He wasn’t sure he wanted to sleep for the first hour of the session, but I didn’t mind much because that meant that I got to spend some time holding and rocking him; I’ll never complain about that! Once he was finally out, he was such an easy baby to work with. It was so much fun getting to spend some time with his family, too, including his big sister Ava. We will be spending lots of time in the future because we have many sessions planned throughout his first year. I’m looking forward to them!

Holy. It is already the end of November! It seems like I just shot this session, but there is now snow on the ground here, so things have changed quite a bit from the little bit of green we found for this session. I was so excited to shoot this session because Abby and her mom drove to Bismarck from Sidney, Montana, only 20 miles down the road from my hometown. I always love running into people from back home, and this year I had the pleasure to photograph several of them, which was so much fun. I may have to do more of that next year!

Abby was awesome, and I really enjoyed spending the evening with her and her mom, driving around to all of these fun locations.
