I’ve been waiting two months to share this giveaway and now that the time has come, I couldn’t be more excited about it! I am always amazed at some of the incredibly talented people we have living here in Bismarck, and any time I get to meet one of them, it is a treat for me. A couple months ago, I was approached by one of Bismarck’s talents, Katie Moon, about trading her talents for mine, and I was instantly all for it. Katie is an amazingly talented illustrator and, of course, all of her work is great, but I just adore her Happy Family illustrations. It is a fun and purely genius concept. And really, what Katie does and what I do are much the same. We both create portraits that show who a family really is; their style, the interests they have, and most importantly the connection and love between them! The only difference is how she and I actually create those portraits.

It was so much fun to see how Katie took my ideas and thoughts about our family and what I wanted to see in our illustration, and brought them to life. When I opened the email and saw this for the first time, all I could do was smile. She didn’t just nail it in every way, she far exceeded my expectations. I can only hope my clients feel the same way when they receive their gallery from me for the first time! I have had it printed and displayed for a short time now, and everyone who has seen it has loved it just as much as I do. You can see here, in Katie’s blog post, how my ideas and the photos of our family turned into something as beautiful as this. I am looking forward to photographing Katie’s sweet family very soon, and repaying her the experience of seeing her family through my eyes, as I was able to do when she illustrated our family.

So, I knew that I wanted to display this huge in my home. I am not afraid to go big went it comes to prints, and this was no exception. I had originally thought I would print it as a canvas, but then I wasn’t sure I’d love the texture. So then, my mind went to a standout. But I just wasn’t sure. I have a lot of canvases and standouts displayed in our home already; I wanted something different and something that would really make a statement. And then it dawned on me. I have been a retailer of Organic Bloom frames for awhile now (my 2011 clients may have even received an ornament frame from me as a Christmas gift last year), although I have not officially added them to my product offerings, they are available to my clients who are interested. These frames are so beautifully made, completely customizable, and very unique. It was the perfect way to display this unique and beautiful portrait of our family.

Okay, I know. You are wondering why I’m still talking and where the giveaway part of this post is! The first thing I’m giving away is a custom Ooh Moon Happy Family illustration ($299 value) to one lucky person!

I was looking forward to this session so much. It was only my first time meeting little Peyton, but I’ve known her parents for quite some time. They’ve lived several states away for awhile now, and it had been so long since I’ve seen them, so I was really looking forward to spending some time with them and meeting their sweet girl, who was about to turn one. And how lucky were we that we’ve had a beautiful early spring here and there is green grass in these images?! I thought the wind may ruin our session, but I’d like to think that it will only remind this family of (the very windy) North Dakota they call home every time they look at their images!

I just love the photos of them together in this session. Their interactions are so sweet, and so indicative of parents about to celebrate their baby’s first birthday. And there is no doubt that Peyton loves her mommy and daddy!

Thank you guys so much for allowing me to capture your family during your short time here. I hope you enjoy your images as much as I enjoyed creating them for you!

I so enjoyed meeting this sweet little girl. Her mom had let me know when she was going to be induced, and I was so excited that day just thinking about it. Every time I find out one of my newborns has been born, I feel as if it was one of my own family members who have given birth! You can ask my husband, I am not very patient when it comes to waiting to meet a newborn, and the anticipation is no different for my littlest clients. This baby wasn’t sure if she should fall asleep for me. She made sure to keep opening her left eye once in awhile to just let me know that she was watching me. I was cracking up over it!

I was so excited for this session in more than one way. First, I was able to photograph Leah when she was just three weeks old, and she had just turned one before this session. It is so amazing to see how much can change in just one short year! Second, it was March and the weather forecast was saying we’d reach 80 degrees. And we did! It was so weird to be shooting an outdoor session in March, but I loved it, and I just adore some of the images of this family.

If you’ve read my blog for awhile, there is no secret that I really love to plan parties. I have so much fun designing all the details…cutting, punching, gluing, assembling. It is even more fun now that Rory is old enough to get really involved and help me out with all of it! She has her own chair and spot to sit in my office, and we spend lots of time down there creating things.

So, imagine how excited I was when Evelyn from the Life and Baby blog contacted me, asking to feature an entire week’s worth of Everyday Art Photography parties! I have no idea how she found my blog, but I was humbled that she would want to do that. Of course, I said YES! Life and Baby is a super fun blog dedicated to all things child and baby related. They feature not only parties, but unique baby products as well.

Please make sure you check back each day this week to see a new party that I have hosted and/or photographed. It started off on Monday with Cohen’s Little Monster party and featured today is an adorable owl themed party created by one of my wonderful clients for her sweet one year old!

Coincidentally, spring time is when all of the party planning excitement happens around my house. First up is a bridal shower in April, and then next, in May, is Rory’s 6th birthday. We’ve already decided that we’re going to have her birthday party at the fun new Sweet Treats Cupcake Bar & Bakery in downtown Bismarck! It is so cute and colorful in there, and Rory has been asking for a rainbow themed party for months, so I think that will be the perfect place. I can wait for her to turn six, but I can’t wait for the party!

Last weekend, I had the pleasure of meeting little Miss Ruby and her family. Ruby is seven months old, and she has finally mastered sitting up on her own. I think this is my favorite age to photograph! And a baby girl in a pink tutu? I’m pretty sure there is nothing sweeter. It is obvious that her mommy and daddy just adore her, and she feels the same way about them. Wouldn’t you agree?

I’m so excited to share these images! I love shooting newborns so much, but when they are as special to me as this little girl is, it is an extra special treat. And she was the most perfect, five day old model I’ve ever had! Isn’t she just beautiful?

Also, my schedule is already filling up through the spring months, so please contact me early if you’d like to book an outdoor child or family session this spring or summer. I can’t even believe this little guy is already seven months old! Actually, these photos were taken when he only six months old. (I’m a little behind in the blog updates department.) How on earth did he go from this sweet, sleepy newborn, to this chubby, smiley boy so quickly?! I just love when I get to see him. He will smile at the drop of a hat, he LOVED chewing on those rubber blocks, drools on everything, and my favorite part is when he grabs my face and pulls me in for a slobbery, wet baby kiss. SO sweet!

It took some bribing to get the tie on him, so we made the bribe into a prop. You do what you can when it comes to two year olds! I love this little guy so much. Here are some things that he LOVES at the moment…

puzzles, stickers, awsaurs (dinosaurs), making dinosaur sounds, juice boxes, buzz and woody (still), ecakes (pancakes), his choo choo trains, throwing balls (sometimes right at you when you’re not expecting it), doing EVERYTHING by himself, bath time, spaghetti, tooties (cookies), picking out his clothes in the morning, his Roryeah (Rory), and coloring
