Well, we had been waiting for snow, and I’m still not sure if that is ever going to happen in Bismarck this year, so we finally gave in and just went for this shoot. After all the warm weather we’ve had, it was actually quite cold and windy on this day…of course. Even without having the ideal weather conditions, I loved the images we got in the 10 or 15 minutes we were out there. I’m so looking forward to their wedding this spring!

Now that winter is here, I’ve found some time for some projects around my house. One of the main ones was to work on giving our basement family/play room a little, much-needed makeover. Because of the foundation, we have this weird ledge down there making it difficult to decorate around. I decided that I wanted to do a grouping of gallery wrapped canvases down there, and rather than hanging them, I’d figured I’d try to use the ledge to my advantage and lean them on there. Of course, the images from our session with Erin were perfect. I just love how they turned out, so I have to share! In the middle is a 24×30 and the other four are all 16×20′s. Now to figure out what to put on the windows.

And while I’m at it, I may as well share this one that has been up for quite some time now. This is a 24×36 gallery wrap hanging above the couch in our living room. You can see what a difference it makes when you go large with wall prints. Imagine if I had hung an 8×10 or even an 11×14 there? Especially in a room like this that has vaulted ceilings. I love this image of my kids so much. Even more than a year later, I still love looking at it every day. (Sorry for the wonky lighting in this photo.)

I know many of my clients have purchased large prints and wall galleries for their homes. I would love it if you all would share them with me on my Everyday Art Facebook page, now that you have them all hung up! As I said in my last post, I’m doing a little rewind. After getting a horrible stomach bug (like just about half of Bismarck), my Christmas was spent mostly on the couch, so I didn’t get a chance to share these with you when I had originally planned. Please close your eyes and imagine that today is Christmas. Okay, now open your eyes, and take a look at how adorable these little Milbradt’s are! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas…sans the flu!

I always get so excited when a past client contacts me again for family photos. It is such an honor to be given the opportunity to capture anyone, but my absolute favorite is capturing a family because it is such a special thing to see the relationship between people who love one another most come through my camera. Especially the relationship a mother or a father has with their child. If I’ve been reminded of anything in the past few months, having a two year old at home myself, it is that two year olds have their own ideas on how a situation is going to go, and this little guy had his own idea of how this session was going to (or not going to) go! (I think maybe he knew there was a birthday party and a bounce house that sounded much more fun coming up later that day?!) I had in my mind the shots that I wanted to get, but they were obviously not going to happen. Yet, when I came home and downloaded these images I was SO happy. Even in a situation where this two year old was not thrilled to be photographed, you can still see, so clearly, how much he really loves his mom and dad. Better yet, how much his mom and dad love him!

Thank you so much to the G family for, once again, giving me the opportunity to capture your family this year!

Last weekend, I had a great session with this senior guy. I’m sure spending a couple hours on a Saturday night with me is not on the top priority list for most high school guys, but he was a good sport, and I think we got some great images that will hopefully make his mom happy!

In order to prepare for this post, I dug deep in the archives and counted how many times I’ve photographed these girls and their family. I tallied up a total of six times! We have a great time each time we do a session, and it is awesome to see how much the girls have changed in looks, yet not so much in their personalities. Even at age 1 little Karli was a spunky one, and her older sister Aubrey has always been a little more quiet. I just love working with them, and I love that they look forward to coming to our sessions. Last time, I made a fool of myself and tripped and fell flat on my back into the snow. I’m happy to report there was no tripping this time, but I may have embarrassed myself a bit with my bad sense of direction in downtown Bismarck. Thanks again, you guys, for another great session and not laughing at me too much!

Finally, a newborn boy! There have been so many baby girls lately, I was excited to have a session with the sweet little guy. I was able to spend a couple of hours with him when he was just twelve days old. With a bit longer of a hospital stay than expected, it sounds like he is already quite the tough guy! I think his arrival home was the perfect Easter gift for his family.

I was so excited to meet this sweet little girl! At five days old, she was the most perfect little sleeper and I just loved her full head of hair. I’ve photographed her family before, and it is safe to say that the newest member of this family is very loved! How could you not love this precious baby?

Rory attended the Butterfly Ball last weekend, which is a daddy/daughter dance sponsored by the Suzuki School of Music. There was a lot of talk and excitement leading up to the day. Anyone who reads this blog knows what a princess obsessed, girly-girl Rory is. I let her pick out her own dress and shoes at Target, and when Saturday came, she wanted to put them on first thing in the morning! It turns out, the Butterfly Ball did not disappoint. She had a blast with her daddy and was so excited to see her friends!

With all the talk and preparation for the day, I will admit that I couldn’t help but think that it will be no time and she will be going to her high school prom. For now, she has no idea what a prom is, and the idea of going on a date with a boy other than her daddy grosses her out. I am thankful for that!

Oh, this little girl…I can’t even put into words how sweet she was. She was three weeks old the day of our session, and I have to admit I was nervous about getting any sleepy newborn shots. Usually, I photograph newborns no later than ten days old. But she was a total pro at the sleeping thing! She passed right out and I was even done in less time than usual! Then, when I looked at her images for the first time, I wasn’t even sure how I was going to narrow it down. It seems I had the same problem when I was trying to decide which images to blog, so you are in for a treat!

And what better way to start than with this? Say it with me, “awwwwwwww!”
