Last weekend, I had a great session with this senior guy. I’m sure spending a couple hours on a Saturday night with me is not on the top priority list for most high school guys, but he was a good sport, and I think we got some great images that will hopefully make his mom happy!

With all that has been going on with my own family, along with the crazy weather, and awful flooding in Bismarck/Mandan, I feel like summer is already gone! But, we are still only in June and we do have a couple summer months left, hopefully! So I wanted to fill you all in on my summer schedule. I know everyone waits for the summer and fall months to update their family photos, and for that reason sessions with me in the months of July through October book up quickly. Outdoor sessions will not be scheduled in November due to the unpredictable North Dakota weather. So if you are thinking about a session this year, it is best to contact me sooner rather than later. And, as always, if you are expecting a newborn, please contact me sometime in your second trimester since all newborn sessions take place within the first 10 days after birth (I do leave room for newborns in my schedule every month of the year). As of today, this is what I have available for the summer and fall months:

July – booked!

August - 2 sessions available booked!

September – 3 2 sessions available

October – 4 sessions available

Last year, my dear friend Erin Vournas and I met up to photograph one anothers’ families. Let me tell you, I am SO happy that we did that! Our family had not taken a real family portrait since way before Cohen was born, and I am so glad that we have those images now. I think too often us parents (moms, especially) miss out on actually being in the photos with our kids; laughing, playing, just being together. And I don’t know about you, but someday I want my children to know that I actually did exist, and better yet, to know how much fun and love we all shared.

I don’t know for sure when exactly a person starts to really retain memories, but I know I remember a few things from kindergarten and quite a bit more from 1st grade. When I really think about it, there is a good chance that my children won’t even have any memories of the things we did up until this point in their lives. That’s crazy to think about, but true! The images I have of them now will be the only thing they have to remember from our time spent doing the things that they love right now. And as a parent, how easy is it to forget that certain expression that you love or how they looked when they were 2 years old or what their favorite toy or activity was? My daughter just turned five and I am already blown away by the changes in her looks and interests when I look at photos of her from a couple years ago. It makes me want to cry when I think of how I will feel looking back at our photos when she’s 18!

Okay, so what started out as a simple post about my summer schedule has turned into something much more rambling and long than I had anticipated, but with a child who just turned 5 and my baby turning 2 in just a month, I am feeling a bit sentimental! Bear with me.

My point is this; what is holding you back from having your children or your family photographed? You can schedule a session with me, go to the photo booth at the mall, ask a stranger to push the button on your point and shoot camera…I don’t care! Whatever you do, I know you won’t regret it!

And since I am preaching on the topic, I’m going to post some images from my absolute favorite family session from last summer. Can’t you just see how much this family loves each other? This is what I love most about this job; capturing images like this!

Yay! It’s giveaway time! Erica, the creator of Bison Booties, and I have been planning this giveaway for a few weeks. When I learned of her etsy shop, I was so excited to find someone who is local selling such an amazing product for babies. I quickly ordered two pairs of booties for my future neices and nephews, and was so impressed with the quality. If you have a baby or an early walker, you need a pair (or two, or three…) of these! You have already seen sweet little Molly modeling them, but I have more.

I mean, how adorable and functional are they?

The last senior girl of the year, and I had so much fun with this session. Nicole is such a fun and confident girl, and we had some good laughs! I photographed Nicole’s sister a couple years ago, and it was so great to see her mom again, and to meet Nicole. It was a beautiful night, and we were able to take advantage of the perfect light at the end of the day. I had a really hard time deciding which images to post.

I’ve had an influx of senior girls this month! I love shooting seniors because of all the possibilities with locations, and also because we can take advantage of all the amazing light right before the sun goes down. Little ones are usually in bed by then! We scoured downtown Bismarck for locations, and Kelsey’s sister even came out for a little fun, too!

I just love repeat clients! One of the most awesome parts about being a photographer is seeing and capturing the changes of children as they grow up. From a sleeping newborn, to a smiley six month old, to a walking one year old. From a busy and curious three year old to a mature five year old heading off to kindergarten. I’ve seen so many changes in my repeat clients, but this one is a bit different, and a first for me. I had the pleasure of photographing Michelle when she was 15. Now, nearly two years later, she is getting ready to start her senior year!

I’ll admit, I was totally nervous when her mom told me they wanted photos of her with their boat. What do you do with a boat? There’s not going to be any shade!? I wasn’t sure what I was going to do, but I loved what we came up with. Michelle totally rocked it! And me? Well, I was completely soaked from the hips down. LOL!

And nothing says Bismarck like a photo in the Missouri River…

I’m so excited for my very first blog contest and giveaway of 2010! And it’s a big one, too, with almost $800 worth of prizes!

Below, I’ve posted one image from every session I’ve done in the past six months. Clients, tell all of your family and friends to come here to my blog to vote for your photo. If you don’t know any of these people, just leave your vote for the photo you like the best. To vote, all you need to do is leave a comment on this post only, with the image number you are voting for. I will not count votes that are emailed, left on Facebook, or entered somewhere else, so that is very important. One vote per email address is allowed.

The client with the winning photo will receive one of these beautiful, custom designed image boxes containing all the images from their session {$500 value}. These are one of my most favorite products! They are a wonderful way to display your images. In addition, you will receive 50% off a portrait session fee to be used toward a session in 2010 {$62.50 value}.
